I write about the effect of the Net on ideas. My most recent book, Everything Is Miscellaneous, looks at how digital networks are changing our principles of organization, and how that affects our understanding of how the world fits together. I am currently working on a book about how knowledge is changing now that it has a medium that scales. I am co-director of the Harvard Library Innovation Lab, a senior researcher at the Harvard Berkman Center for Internet & Society, and a Franklin Fellow at the US State Dept. I have a doctorate in Philosophy, was an academic, worked in the software industry starting in the mid-1980s, and have been involved in various standards efforts.
