Jonathan Rees studies the scholarly data and knowledge sharing platform that is emerging on the Web. Current projects for the W3C Technical Architecture Group (TAG) include developing consensus approaches for Web metadata and persistent document references (URIs). He is codeveloper of the Neurocommons package-based knowledge integration demonstration and has participated in projects that apply this platform in biomedical research. For his PhD (MIT 1995) he wrote a dissertation on programming language support for digital security. A uniting theme in his work is the exploring the potential for formal language technologies (compilers, interpreters, and logics) in clarifying and solving system engineering problems.
