Perian Sully is a digital humanities technologist specializing in helping museums, archives, and libraries put their collections online and and make them accessible to a diverse public in innovative ways. Recently, Perian began working with the Balboa Park Online Collaborative in San Diego, helping 12 museums, archives, and libraries migrate data and make their collections available on an integrated Commons website. She previously served as the Collection Information Manager and Web Programs Strategist at the Magnes in Berkeley, and was instrumental in creating the Magnes' integrated archives-library-museum collection management system and online database, the institutional website, and in launching a host of digital programs until the move of the collections to The Bancroft Library in 2010. In addition, Perian is the Program Chair for the Media and Technology Standing Professional Committee of the American Association of Museums, and writes about cultural heritage technology for the blog Musematic (http://www.musematic.net). She has written extensively about museum collection information systems for the Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science and The New Museum Registration Methods, 5th edition (2010). Perian is a regular lecturer on a number of topics, including collection information systems, standards, social media, digitization, asset management, and online access to collections.
As the collection data expert within an organization devoted to collaborative opportunities in the LAM sector, I have access and input about the data for 12+ organizations within Balboa Park, San Diego. One of the major initiatives of BPOC is to make the assets of these available within a federated collections presentation website, including making the data available via an API.
